Hola Sun announces new flights from Hamilton International Airport
HAMILTON, ONTARIO (25 August 2010) – John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport has today announced that it will partner with Cuban tour specialist, Hola Sun Holidays, to offer weekly flights to Holguin and Cayo Coco in Cuba.
“We are very excited about these flights and to offer residents of Southern Ontario the opportunity to fly to these two beautiful Cuban locations from Hamilton,” said Karen Medweth, Director, Marketing for the Airport. “Our Airport is ideal for these sorts of leisure destinations – quick, easy and friendly – meaning our passengers can relax and enjoy their holiday before they even get on a plane.”
Jorge Felix Salazar, President of Hola Sun commented, “Cuba is fast becoming the world’s favourite fun and sun vacation spot and Holguin and Cayo Coco are two of the nicest areas. We’re extremely pleased to provide these new direct flights from such a convenient location as Hamilton.”
And these flights to Cuba are just the beginning. Richard Koroscil, President & CEO of Hamilton International Airport said, “We’re thrilled to have Hola Sun partner with our Airport to provide quality Cuban holidays. These flights are also an example of how Hamilton Airport can add value to the passenger experience, with many people preferring the ease of our Airport over the alternatives. We expect to see many more leisure holidays on offer from Hamilton in the years to come.”
These destination packages to Holguin and Cayo Coco are perfect for families seeking a warm, mid-winter getaway. Flights start on 22 December 2010 and run through to 21 April 2011. Departing each Wednesday, packages start from just $968 per person for a 7-night stay in the Christmas season and include direct flights and accommodation plus a free nature and city tour complements of Hola Sun. Bookings can be made through your local travel agency.
Holguin was pronounced “the most beautiful land eyes have ever seen” by Christopher Columbus when he first sighted it in 1492. On the northern shore of Cuba, Holguin offers visitors everything from mountains and tropic forests to beautiful beaches, lagoons and bays.
Cayo Coco is part of the “Cuban Keys”, strung off Cuba’s Atlantic coast and immortalised in Earnest Hemingway’s novel, “Island in the Stream.” Cayo Coco provides a variety of excellent resorts along its 22-kilometer stretch of beach.

I am just curious as to what airline will be operating these flights?
Hi Ray,
The new Cuban flights from Hamilton International are being offered by tour operator, Hola Sun Holidays and it is through them that all tickets (package holiday or flight only) are made available; contact your local travel agent to learn more or to book your travel.

Hi
I was just wondering about the flights. With the lay off of the airport fire department recently, I was wondering if there was an emergency who would respond?
When the fire department there, the response time was 3 minutes. With out them I figure the response time would be around 15 minutes. Do you think this is a safe airport to fly out of? I am seriously thinking on heading over to Porter.

Thank you for sharing your concern. At hi, safety is always our priority. We will continue to have emergency response staff on site at the airport 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. However, going forward, these staff will now be cross-trained staff in both emergency response and maintenance functions, allowing them to perform other duties during the periods with no commercial passenger flight activity. This is a similar practice as is already in place and proven effective at other comparably sized airports around Canada. The changes do not in any way compromise the safety or service level of Hamilton International Airport.
