Jeanette and Stephane June 2009
There are a couple of things I think everyone should know whenever they fly from Hamilton International: Number one is that hi is probably the most pleasant terminal I have ever been in, and although I haven’t had the pleasure of flying from Hamilton, I do now consider myself to be somewhat of a terminal veteran as I have strolled through it almost daily over the course of the last month and a bit.
The second thing people should know pertains to a resource that not many places in the world are fortunate enough to have and that is Jeannette Cauley. Those that have travelled though hi in the past may recognize her as the extremely helpful face behind the Hamilton Tourism Desk, across from the Tim Horton’s. Those who haven’t should be sure to stop in and say hello.
Aside from being one of the first people I met when I started, Jeannette continues to amaze me with her knowledge and eagerness to help, which is why I wanted to share this quick story. This may sound familiar to those that know her well, as I am sure that Jeannette has performed many acts of kindness, but for those who don’t this is the type of person Jeannette is-
A couple of weeks ago I made the mistake of locking my keys in my car, normally not a big deal, but as a new face at hi it was not the type of thing I wanted everyone to know about. A quick search in the morning did not turn up a metal hanger, and I completely forgot about it until the end of the day. This is where Jeannette comes in…
It just so happens that I was the last person in the office that Wednesday and after CAA said it would be a minimum 45min wait, I decided to check the terminal building for a hanger. After embarrassingly asking everyone that I figured would have one I went over to see Jeannette.
Turns out, she did have a usable hanger, not exactly what I was looking for, but I decided to give it a try anyhow. By the time I walked back to my car, Security was waiting for me with another hanger. Jeannette had been burning up the phone lines as I made my way back to my car looking for a suitable metal hanger, and Stephane of the Security Team brought it over to me. Unbelievable!
For those that want to know how I made out, well the first one jammed in the lock, but the second hanger, the one that Jeannette gave me, worked like a charm. It is not so much the fact that she helped me on my way, but the fact that she cared so much, a quality that is rare in today’s society.
So next time you are at hi be sure to stop by her desk should you need any tourism info. She is certainly one of a kind and defines why Hamilton International is not only the easy alternative, but also the friendly alternative.
