It is probably the world’s best collection of flying-condition vintage warplanes. History is brought to life by experienced volunteers, who build, maintain and fly these beautiful aircraft. I have spent hours listening to volunteers tell wonderful stories about the aircraft and some of the missions they flew. The volunteers are the heart and soul of the museum.

Close your eyes and let your imagination take you back to another time and place. The Lancaster bomber is an icon that Hamiltonians take particular pride in. A WWII bomber, the distinct drone of the engine overhead is a reminder of Canada’s aviation history. Earlier this year, when it looked like the Lanc would be grounded because it needed new propeller blades, the call went out to the community and they responded with enthusiasm. In a very short time, the money was raised and new propeller blades bought and installed. The Lanc took to the skies again to the delight of everyone.

If you are flying in or out of Hamilton International Airport, with your same-day boarding pass you get free admission to the museum. Why not arrive at the airport early, check-in and drop your baggage, then take the five minute walk over the museum. It is a great way to pass the time while waiting for your flight.

If you are not flying out – visit the museum and spend the entire day. You will meet great people and see amazing aircraft. For full details, including hours of operation, admission rates, special events go to www.warplane.com.
