I must say after traveling around the west coast of Canada I didn’t think that visiting the east coast would be nearly as rewarding. I had heard it was nice but I figured these people had yet to visit the west and witness the wondrous mountains. Now, after experiencing both of Canada’s coasts, I could not choose one over the other – unless you’re looking to ski or snowboard, in which case for me the choice is still obvious, go west.
Through my travels I visited New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.
The trip started in New Brunswick where I visited Fredericton, St. John and Moncton. The highlight for me would have had to been The Bay of Fundy and Hopewell Rocks. The Bay of Fundy has the highest average tides in the world at 40+ feet and during low tide you can walk on the bottom of the ocean where hours later the water level will have risen 40 feet. I never saw high tide but low tide was quite the experience. Magnetic Hill near Moncton was also quite interesting where your car appears to get pulled uphill when placed in neutral.
Prince Edward Island was a beautiful province and while the majority of my time was spent driving the coastline, I will definitely go back one day solely to golf at some of the top courses in North America. Taking the bridge from New Brunswick to P.E.I. was enjoyable and I decided to take the ferry from P.E.I. to Nova Scotia which was also a short nice ride.
I spent two days in Halifax, visiting Peggy’s Cove and walking around the city and the Harbourfront. Halifax is a nice city and visiting Peggy’s Cove was a great time. I ate at a lot of local restaurants that offered fresh seafood and other local foods – I can’t recall the names but I always left satisfied.
Flying WestJet has always been my first choice when flying within Canada and the daily non-stop flights to Halifax and Moncton departing Hamilton International Airport make the east coast a very convenient and economical vacation spot. I would recommend that everyone at some point visit the east coast of Canada as it was quite the pleasant surprise for me.
Do you have any tips or recommendations for people travelling to the East coast?
